June 04 Back in time (the pics are here before posting) WOW! A Total Flashback!! Enjoy i know some of you are too young to remember some of these but they are CLASSICS from the 50's/60's ....for those of us who do remember ......enjoy !! How's This For Nostalgia?
All the girls had ugly gym uniforms? It took five minutes for the TV to warm up?
Nearly everyone's Mom was at home when the kids got home from school?
Nobody owned a purebred dog?
When a quarter was a decent allowance?
You'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny?
Your Mom wore nylons that came in two pieces?
All your male teachers wore neckties and female teachers had their hair done every day and wore high heels?
You got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped, without asking, all for free, every time? And you didn't pay for air? And, you got trading stamps to boot?
Laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the box?
It was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at a real restaurant with your parents?
They threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed. And they did it!
When a 57 Chevy was everyone's dream car...to cruise, peel out, lay rubber or watch submarine races, and people went steady?
No one ever asked where the car keys were because they were always in the car, in the ignition, and the doors were never locked?
Lying on your back in the grass with your friends?
and saying things like, 'That cloud looks like a... '?
Playing baseball with no adults to help kids with the rules of the game?
Stuff from the store came without safety caps and hermetic seals because no one had yet tried to poison a perfect stranger?
And with all our progress, don't you just wish, just once, you could slip back in time and savor the slower pace, and share it with the children of today.
When being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to the fate that awaited the student at home?
Teach these kids some respect.
Basically we were in fear for our lives, but it wasn't because of drive-by shootings, drugs, gangs, etc. Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat! But we survived because their love was greater than the threat. . .as well as summers filled with bike rides, baseball games, Hula Hoops, bowling and visits to the pool, and eating Kool-Aid powder with sugar.
Didn't that feel good, just to go back and say, 'Yeah, I remember that'? I am sharing this with you today because it ended with a Double Dog Dare to pass it on. To remember what a Double Dog Dare is, read on. And remember that the perfect age is somewhere between old enough to know better and too young to care. --Go all the way to the bottom past the pictures. I think you'll enjoy it. Whoever wrote this must have been my next door neighbor because it totally described my childhood to a 'T.' Hope you enjoy it. Black and White Black and White (Under age 40? You won't understand.) Spread the rabbit ears as far as they go. Pull a chair up to the TV set, 'Good Night, David. Good Night, Chet.' Mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter and I used to eat it raw sometimes, too. Our school sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper in a brown paper bag, not in ice pack coolers, but I can't remember getting e.coli. The term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system. Speaking of school, we all said prayers and sang the national anthem, and staying in detention after school caught all sorts of negative attention. Ours wore a hat and everything. I thought that I was supposed to accomplish something before I was allowed to be proud of myself. I just can't recall how bored we were without computers, Play Station, Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable stations. Oh yeah... And where was the Benadryl and sterilization kit when I got that bee sting? I could have been killed! We played 'king of the hill' on piles of gravel left on vacant construction sites, and when we got hurt, Mom pulled out the 48-cent bottle of mercurochrome (kids liked it better because it didn't sting like iodine did) and then we got our butt spanked. Now it's a trip to the emergency room, followed by a 10-day dose of a $49 bottle of antibiotics, and then Mom calls the attorney to sue the contractor for leaving a horribly vicious pile of gravel where it was such a threat. We didn't act up at the neighbor's house either, because if we did we got our butt spanked there and then we got our butt spanked again when we got home. I recall Donny Reynolds from next door coming over and doing his tricks on the front stoop, just before he fell off. Little did his Mom know that she could have owned our house. Instead, she picked him up and swatted him for being such a goof. It was a neighborhood run amuck. To top it off, not a single person I knew had ever been told that they were from a dysfunctional family. How could we possibly have known that? We needed to get into group therapy and anger management classes. We were obviously so duped by so many societal ills, that we didn't even notice that the entire country wasn't taking Prozac! How did we ever survive? LOVE TO ALL OF US WHO SHARED THIS ERA. AND TO ALL WHO DIDN'T, SORRY FOR WHAT YOU MISSED. I WOULDN'T TRADE IT FOR ANYTHING! Hi everyone;
It’s July 6th and I still haven’t checked my e-mail since June 27th or 28th. I don’t like form letters because they are so impersonal, but I have so many e-mails stacked up I don’t have time to check everyone of them. Each and every one of you are in my prayers.
I know it’s been a while since I’ve written, but there have been some changes in my life. When writing this I’m in a rehab center, not for drug and alcohol, for an injury. I have to learn some new living skills for a temporary problem. It’s nothing serious. I was working on my house and fell into the entrance to the cellar from the side, landing on my right foot about 5’ down. There were people there working, and one of them, Gerald, heard me yelling and called EMS for me. My blood pressure had dropped to 80/54 and I didn’t have the strength in my left leg to push my way out of the hole and it took six of them to get me on a backboard and out.
This happened on a Thursday and surgery wasn’t until Sunday. I lay at my house until Sunday morning when a friend of mine, Betty, drove me to the hospital. I broke 2 bones and pulled some ligaments. I remember the doctor saying something about screws plates and pins and the ligament damage not being as bad as they thought. I was doped up and don’t remember much. I couldn’t fix food or anything because with the MS I don’t have the balance, strength or stamina (fatigue is a major issue with MS) to stand on one leg. I didn’t realize I was in this bad of health. I have no stamina with a walker or wheelchair either. Again, fatigue is a major problem.
I am at Mt. Holly Community Living Center in Louisville Kentucky. It’s a rehab facility specializing in getting people back into independent living. I don’t look to be here a long time, but it will be several weeks. At least until I can get into a walking cast and can get my strength built up. (Julia could come and be my nurse. Then I could go home, LOL!!!!) All fun aside, I’m doing well and can’t wait to get the staples removed. Staples have been removed and I have to be on my back until Aug. 21st. What a Bummer.
I’ve had to cancel a couple of gigs, but I should be able to do my Son’s wedding at the end of October.
So to Wanda, Billy, Renuka, Julia, Jukes, Martha, Diane, Allan, Linda, Jean, Lisa, Tan Tan, Steven and family, Cory and Family, Trish and Family, and all of my friends, too numerous to mention both online and off, I wish the best to all of you and hope you are all in the best of health.

Sherrill, a.k.a. Pa Kettle June 23 As You can tellAs you can tell I've been busy. This is the first time in a long time I've been able to write what's going on. Since retiring I've been working on the house an I think I can see an end to it. I've been 3 years without water and have had to pack. I haave finally gotten into the 21st century and have running water in the house.
The warehouse and apartment have been functionig but not my house. We have 5 housess on the same block so I've been using which ever has been vacant for my utility and bathroom. I guess that's all for this trip. Check out the photos of the yard. Little by little I'm getting things together.
I will be having surgery soon and the progress will stop for abou six weeks or more. I'll have a fully functioning house by then, so who cares. I'm hoping to have BB at the house by the time of surgery so I can keep in touch and not go stircrazy. I know I won,t be able to sit for several weeks, I think it's six.

This past week a student took a gun to one of the local High Schools. There was a complete lockdown, Police and Swat called in and a search for hours. Parents were called in to pick up their children and were required to show ID. A complete mess.
When I was in school you were concidered weird if you didn,t take a gun to school. At least durring hunting seasons. he parking lot was filled with pickup trucks with gun racks filled with hegh dollar armament and that was the norm. I remember many times students taking their new weapons through the halls to show some teacher or maybe the Principal. If you didn't own a firearm you were concidered different.
I remember when my cousin Norman gave me a Winchester 243 for christmas one year. I had admired his and had used it on several occasions while hunting groundhog. It had a 10 power scope and you could pick off a groundhog at 700 yards. This wasn't to be unsporting, it was to protect the watermellon patch. We had 40 Acres of rich and sweet Indiana Mellons. Some of the best in the world.

January 25 All is well in MSN Land (Drug Problem)Now I know what's wrong with me.
The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question. "Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?" I replied I had a drug problem when I was young:
I was drug to church on Sunday morning.
I was drug to church for weddings and funerals.
I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.
I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults. I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.
I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profanity. I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flowerbeds and cocklebur's out of dad's field. I was drug to the homes of family,friends and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood; and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed. Those drugs are still in my veins and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, or think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin; and, if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place.

Sherrill Life Has Gone to the DogsHi everyone;
I know this sounds depressing but I had a visitor from animal control on Dec 7th. My poor Brownie was written up for Not being licensed and being improperly restrained. (shame on Daddy) Since the move I've had the Brown Hound on a 20' long chain tied out ten feet from his Dog Home. I call it a home because it has automatic feeder and watering. He has a Hot Wheels sleeping bag and lots of love.
Well, I took the beast to the vet to get his shots (ouch) and get proded and checked out. When they brought Brownie back to me I was informed he has heart worms and they are fairly advanced. It's going to cost about $500 + to save his life. This is no guarantee. I told him in front of the vet assistant he was going to have to get a job or he was a Dead Dog Walking, LOL. She laughed about the comment. What we will do for our babies.
I guess the first step is to get him the bloodwork and X-rays to see if the surgery and hospitalization is worth it. Anyone wanting to donate to the "Save Brownie Foundation" please send donations to the Shively Animal Hospital in Brownies name, LOL. Makes you wonder doesn't it. If you can't find humor in a situation we might as well roll over and die.
Brownie doesn't seem to be bothered, he's as lively as ever and a real happy camper. We can all get a lesson in faith from our furry friends. They don't worry because they know we'll protect them. I went to U of L Hospital and had the MRI run and went to my first PT appointment. Everything went as usual, SNAFU. I will be going for PT twice a week for a while so hope they don't kill me. I got a little worried when Matt said he'd take it easy on me since I hadn't had the MRI yet. I don't know what to expect other than a lot of pain.
It's said, no pain no gain so will find it out starting Dec 31. I go to PT then go set up the sound equipment at Safe Harbor in Vine Grove. There is always a lot of pain associated with setting up the equipment. The Speakers are heavy and so are the lights, and no pain medication.
Sometimes life deals you apples and sometimes it deals you oranges. I'm glad I like fruit sallad.

Sherrill December 11 Doctors Visit and More._________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hi to all my friends;
I went to the doctor friday and it went well. She has ordered another MRI on my lower back and is setting me up with physical therapy. The insurance doesn't want to pay for my pain medication so we're fighting that. Other than that I guess I'll live. I've heard rumors about physical therapy and hope they aren't true. All I need is more pain inflicted. LOL.
Enough about that. I went to the hospital to visit a friend that was involved in a head on collision about a week ago. He's doing good for the injuries. I learned alot from the visit. He was really concerned about the other driver (the at fault driver). She is 18 years old and fell asleep at the wheel. THe accident occurred at 5:14 AM EST on Dec. 3rd. She was treated and released but her insurance isn't going to start to cover the bills. His health plan is going to cover them but he is still concerned about her emotionally. I just hope I'm enough of a person to fell that way if the cards were dealt differently. Another lesson in spiritual growth.

I'm writing this so all my friends on MSN will know what's been going on with me for the past couple of months. As you all know the doctors have given me some pretty potent medication. The medication has been partially effective. The fatigue is less and the tremors have slowed down. I still feel drugged up all of the time. There are other side effects that I'm going to have to talk to the doctor about.
In general I've been doing good though. I have p----d off a few people with my attitude and sense of humor. It's been a little weird.
I have to see the doctor on friday and hopefully she will be able to get me into physical therapy for some of the other ails. She was also talking about surgery for my shoulders and elbows. We haven't even started on the back hips and knees yet.
I will keep all informed and wish all of you a Happy Holiday and Merry Christmas and or Holliday season of your choice. It's hard to be politically correct now a days, so in the words of Will Rogers: "If I have offended anybody I am deeply sorry. Actually I don't give a damn!!!" He would then leave the stage.
Keep smiling and don't let the sun quit shining on your day. Take life one day at a time. Live Life on Lifes Terms. The sunshine of the spirit will lead you through.
